Free Cardiac Screenings Provided to High School Athletes In Memory of Kevin Telles, Garden Grove High School Football Player
GARDEN GROVE - More than 100 Garden Grove High School football players received electrocardiograms (EKG) and screening echocardiograms, provided by volunteers from Huntington Beach Hospital and Garden Grove Hospital Medical Center.
The screening were provided in memory of Kevin Telles, 17, a Garden Grove High School football player who died last fall after collapsing on the field. Kevin had myocarditis, an inflammation of his heart muscle. The screenings can provide indicators to determine if additional testing is needed.
Volunteers at the event were from Garden Grove Hospital, Huntington Beach Hospital, Garden Grove Football Booster Parents, Garden Grove Hospital Auxiliary Guild and students from American Career College and Orange Coast College. EKG and Echo equipment has been donated by General Electric and Phillips.
Cardiologist C.F. Chin, M.D., volunteered his services to interpret the screening information collected.
